What if I just want to share an idea or a news item or something similar?

Interesting question.  I think there could be some flexibility - certainly you could have directives like "post XYZ about some topic".  

There was also a proposal on here to use to use the voting mechanism on this site as a way to filter out content for other publishing platforms.  

I was thinking that we could have something like a "soapbox" category where people could share and comment on any topic.
